Australian Fire Protection Fire Safety Officer program is a nationally recognised course for persons who occupy the Fire Safety Officer position in Health Care, Correctional facilities and commercial premises and is specifically aimed at those appointed as Fire Safety Officers (FSO). It provides the competency required to undertake emergency planning, prevention procedures, implement, and coordinate emergency response procedures, and be familiar with the operation of essential fire safety measures and all aspects of building fire safety.
This course will train participants in the requirements of Australian Standards AS 4083-2010 (Planning for Emergencies in Health Care Facilities), AS 3745-2010 (Planning for Emergencies in Facilities) and meets the requirements of the NSW Health Policy Directive (PD2010_024) – Fire Safety in Health Care Facilities. With intricate medical equipment and often Non-ambulatory persons, a sound knowledge of fire safety training and life safety systems for the healthcare sector is a high priority, requiring both foresight and expert knowledge.

This course is delivered by Australian Fire Protection Pty Ltd RTO 45740. Upon successful completion of the Fire Safety Officer course, participants will receive a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment in the following competencies:-
> PUAFER001, PUAFER002, PUAFER004, PUAFER005, PUAFER006 & PUAFER008
These competencies meet the requirements of the NSW Health’s Policy Directive for the role of Fire Safety Officer.

Overview of Courses
- Understanding the role and responsibilities of an FSO
- Understanding legislation
- Ensure workplace emergency prevention processes are implemented
- Ensure appropriate hazard analysis is undertaken and workplace procedures implemented
- Monitor day-to-day fire prevention, protection, and fire safety functions within the facility
- Developing risk management strategies
- Emergency Planning Processes
- Respond to emergency reports, signals, and warnings
- Initiate, lead and control emergency response for the ECO
- Coordinate post response activities
- Practical Incident Control and Chief Fire Warden Scenarios
- Conducting and Evaluating evacuation exercises and fire drills
- Demonstrate knowledge and practical application of first attack firefighting equipment
- Operating emergency protection and emergency control equipment
- Develop an awareness of maintenance and records relating to fire safety
